Titusville - Saltwater Fishing Report

This week's report on the upper Indian River and Mosquito Lagoon from Spotted Tail, updated 1/4
First off, I'd like to wish every one a safe, happy, and prosperous New Year. I'd also like to thank those of you who have waited patiently since my last report. It's been a lovely little vacation.
I have not fished this week. I was going to go look around today, that is, until I stepped outside this morning. That quickly changed my mind. On the bright side, my fly inventory is soaring.
I did fish four days last week. The nicest days were Tuesday and Wednesday. There were a lot of redfish and big trout out and about in the Mosquito Lagoon, and what's better the water level rose about four inches. Fishing was good. Thursday it rained all morning, not a pretty day. Bill and Mark Harris managed a couple of trout and redfish, again in the Mosquito Lagoon, before we decided to bag it.
Friday a cold wind and overcast made for fairly miserable conditions in the Indian River. Quent Byerly got a load of jacks and ladyfish, both on fly and on DOA TerrorEyz. We then went on what I thought would be a fruitless hunt for reds. We didn't catch any, but we did run over (viz was bad with the wind and clouds) quite a few and some black drum as well.
This weekend air temperatures are supposed to rise into the 70's. Fishing on the flats could be phenomenal if this happens. Rising water temps will stimulate fishy appetites, and the fish haven't been hammered too hard this week, so get out there and get 'em!
Fishing is great and I love my work!
