Titusville - Saltwater Fishing Report

This week's report on the upper Indian River and Mosquito Lagoon
from Spotted Tail, updated 1/27
Now booking TARPON trips for May and June for the SW Florida coast!
Spotted Tail had another tough week but things are looking up. Monday and Wednesday I fished Lee Richardson, a flycaster from Yorkshire, England. Monday we were in the Indian River. It was a nasty day- cold, windy, overcast, and occasionally raining. In four hours of hard looking we saw exactly one fish. We visited the Banana River by canoe on Wednesday and saw hundreds of big black drum. Exactly three fish even bothered to look over the various flies we tried, and none of them ate. Another bagel.
Thursday I fished for shad for a few hours in the St. Johns River, joining Tambo and Rodney Smith for the outing. It was great socializing with them, and we got quite a few fish.
Friday morning I went scouting the north end of the Mosquito Lagoon and found quite a few trout and one small school of unencumbered reds. I could tell from the numbers of boats working in REAL small areas that there must be schools of fish there, but who wants to fish in a crowd?
In the afternoon I fished John Loo of San Diego, another fly fisherman, in the Indian River. We found hundreds of very spooky reds that usually spooked as he was casting, but sometimes would wait for the fly to drop before spooking. In spite of many opportunities, we got yet another bagel.
Next week will be better.
Fishing is great and I love my work!
