Titusville - Saltwater Fishing Report

This week's report on the upper Indian River and Mosquito Lagoon

Whoever said, "Fishing's great, catching varies" had our recent fishing in mind. Wednesday last week I had Shawn Healy out on the Indian River. We got three beautiful trout on jerk baits and Shawn got one redfish that weighed a tad less than 27 pounds, an awesome fish.
Saturday found Maxx and I on the St. Johns River, shad fishing. It wasn't a hot bite but it was steady. Maxx got his first several shad on a small green shad fly.
Monday and Tuesday Bill Fleming graced my boat. Talk about skanky weather! Monday we tried the Mosquito Lagoon, where we managed to find a couple of fishing spots in the thick fog and wind and actually caught a couple of trout on jerk worms. We tried the Indian River the next morning. The fog burned off about noon and some redfish came out but wouldn't eat. Bill managed to get one high quality blowfish on a Dupre Spoonfly.
Today we actually had a beautiful day, and while it started very slowly we happened onto a Mosquito Lagoon flat which was literally covered with redfish. Anthony Palmer had God smile on him only once, when an eight pound red took his green marabou Clouser minnow looking thing. All his other casts, whether superb, horrible, or somewhere in between, met with indifference at best.
Central Florida is still suffering through a drought and places I like to fish are dry on a north wind. The water is very low and will likely stay that way at least until the rainy season starts. One of these days the weather will settle and fishing ought to turn on. I wait with great anticipation for that to happen!
Fishing is great and I love my work!
