Titusville - Saltwater Fishing Report

This week's report on the upper Indian River and Mosquito Lagoon
from Spotted Tail, updated 3/18
Now booking TARPON trips for May and June for the SW Florida coast!
Another tough week fishing-wise lies behind us. Not one but two fronts came through this week, confusing fish and fishermen alike.
On Monday I took my two boys Maxx and Alex and one of their friends, Ryan Sullivan, on a canoe/wading trip in the Indian River. Fishing all day we got three redfish, three seatrout, and one black drum between us, with Ryan getting both his first redfish, his first black drum, and the biggest fish of his life. He was more than a little stoked. Gentlemen, that is why we all need to take kids fishing!
Tuesday Bob Welge from New York and I went to the Mosquito Lagoon for a half day charter. We saw very few fish and got one red.
Wednesday Rick and Beth Watkins of Orlando accompanied me on a trip to the Indian River. Novices at fly fishing in saltwater they wanted an enjoyable day. In succession we tried the south power plant, the Rinker Canal, both sides of the NASA Causeway, and the VAB flat. No exaggeration, we saw more manatees than fish. We had an enjoyable day but didn't catch a thing.
Friday the Florida Outdoor Writers Association had a little fishing tournament with 15 boats, mostly guided by IRGA guides. About 5 redfish and 10 trout were caught between all boats. Sandy Huff, fishing with me, got the biggest redfish of the day, a 24 inch monster.
Yesterday old friend Warren Hinrichs from Jacksonville, my son Maxx, and I went fishing together in the Indian River. Between us we got three trout and two redfish, all on fly. Maxx had the big fish, a 28" red, fooled on Maxx's Black Drum Clouser.
In spite of the extended run of tough days, fishing is great and I love my work!
