Titusville - Saltwater Fishing Report

This week's report on the upper Indian River and Mosquito Lagoon
from Spotted Tail, updated 3/24
Now booking TARPON trips for May and June for the SW Florida coast!
Monday and Tuesday my trips got cancelled due to rain. We needed it. It brought the water level in the lagoon system up a few inches. Fishing in the Mosquito Lagoon this week I was shocked and dismayed to see the huge increase in propeller damage to seagrass beds, damage caused by fishermen trying to run their boats into places their boats were not designed to go.
Wednesday David Saliba of Virginia accompanied me on an Indian River fly fishing trip. In spite of overcast skies and 20 knot winds we managed to get a few fish- three reds to 15 pounds, one seatrout, one black drum. all while wading. Flies of choice were the Homer Rhodes shrimp fly in grizzly, and Maxx's Black Drum Clouser.
Thursday and Friday brought beautiful blue skies and winds to only about 15 knots. Tom Ripp, a fly fisherman from Arizona, had many good opportunities at spooky trout and redfish in the Mosquito Lagoon. Exactly two redfish fell for his offerings in those two days. It was good to see so many fish again, though.
I still think that fishing is great, and I love my work!
