Titusville - Saltwater Fishing Report

This week's report on the upper Indian River and Mosquito Lagoon
from Spotted Tail, updated 8/17
On Monday, locals Patrick Phillips and Rob Blake joined me for a day of fly fishing from the kayaks in the no motor zone of the Banana River. While the fish weren't particularly thick, and they were particularly spooky, we managed to entice three snook and two reds to our flies. I also saw one rather large black drum tailing. An altogether pleasant day.
Tuesday Bob and Brian Buraszeski joined me on Spotted Tail for some redfishing in the Banana River. We sat on a school of fish almost all morning. They were spooky and not eating particularly well. We managed to hook five and put four in the boat before the sea breeze came up and the fish disappeared.
Wednesday Charlie and Catherine Stevens from Texas graced the Spotted Tail, fishing in the Indian River. Charlie badly wanted to get some tarpon. We started on tailing redfish, and he got one about 9 pounds. He also got a fat four pound trout that ate the fly within 10 feet of the boat. If only more fish could be that aggressive! We found a school of tarpon between 30 and 60 pounds in about 6 feet of water and they were actually eating. They jumped 6 in little more than an hour, Charlie on PolarFibre Minnows and Catherine on a DOA Bait Buster. While we didn't put any in the boat, it was still quite an afternoon.
Fishing is great, and I love my work!
