Titusville - Saltwater Fishing Report

This week's report on the upper Indian River and Mosquito Lagoon from Spotted Tail, updated 11/13
Water levels in the lagoon system are falling, in part because of a sustained northeast wind. They are still comfortably high for navigation.
I fished four of the last five days in the Mosquito Lagoon. Thursday I went scouting. The weather was gorgeous, and there were fish almost everywhere I looked, sometimes in real big clumps. I got two fish on flies (new pattern, Maxx's Mud Minnow), a 12 pound black drum and a ten pound redfish. Although I didn't get any, I saw a lot of big trout.
Friday I fished Lou Stone, from Stuart. Lou got a nice black drum on a jig, and got at least 15 reds on various natural and artificial baits. There were still fish everywhere.
Sunday I fished TC Howard and Paul Machovina on a half day. We must have seen 1000 very spooky redfish. TC got one on a black Clouser Minnow, and Paul also hooked two on fly but with a streak of bad luck lost them both.
Monday the weather changed. I fished Nick Scull and his friend Cliff, both from West Palm Beach. The huge numbers of fish of the previous several days had disappeared. We saw maybe 50 fish all day. They got five reds, all on gold spoons, all by blind casting. The fish really made us work.
Come visit the Indian River Guides Association booth at the Shallow Water Show in Tampa this coming weekend (Nov. 17 and 18) and we can chat.
Fishing is great and I love my work!
