Titusville - Saltwater Fishing Report

This week's report on the upper Indian River and Mosquito Lagoon from Spotted Tail, updated 1/21
Winter fish is schizophrenic great one day, horrible the next. First though, a word on conditions...
Water levels in the Indian River Lagoon system are very low. Folks are getting stuck in places they ran freely just a few months ago. Needless to say, this takes its toll on the seagrass beds. Pleas operate carefully.
The water in most places is very clear, too, making for excellent sightfishing conditions.
There are lots of slot sized reds and BIG seatrout on the Mosquito Lagoon flats. Some days they bite like mad, others they have lockjaw. Gary Kokaisel and Mike Deegan discovered this first hand on Friday, when we were in fish most of the day and managed only four hookups.
Wednesday I went on a kayak trip up into the no motor zone. Three big black drum to 35 pounds and six reds to 15 pounds fell for Maxx's Black Drum Clouser minnow. Yesterday I took a four person charter up there, led by Bob Rella of Gainesville. We saw numerous drum, no reds, and between us managed two undersized trout. Very sad...
It's great to be alive, and I still love my work!
