Indian River Lagoon & Banana River

Capt. John Kumiski

Titusville - Saltwater Fishing Report

This week's report on the upper Indian River and Mosquito Lagoon

from Spotted Tail, updated 4/3

Wow, fishing in the lagoon system has broken completely open the past couple of days. The string of beautiful weather days continues, too.

On Friday last week I fished Roland Reems and Dick Monroe, both of Orlando. Using Bass Assassins and Capt. Mike's Flats Candy Too in various areas of the Mosquito Lagoon they got one redfish and about 15 trout to five pounds or so.

Sunday Dr. Frank Tudelo and his son Carlos graced the Spotted Tail. Again in the Mosquito Lagoon and again on soft plastics they got several nice trout and three reds.

Monday I took son Maxx out onto the Atlantic out of the Port. Cloudy, windy, and rough, we saw nothing all morning. We pulled the boat and went to the Indian River, where in 2 1/2 hours we each jumped a tarpon on TerrorEyz and put one in the boat, and Maxx got a handsome 14 lb. snook on a Bass Assassin.

Yesterday I fished Rob O'Reilly from Ontario. This poor guy had the worst luck I've seen in a long time. He did get one nice red and a ladyfish. But during the course of the day he had shots at all kinds of reds, as well as snook, tarpon, trout, and jacks (which were all over the place). Two fish boated when you've been in them literally all day is bad luck no matter how you slice it.

It's still great to be alive, and I still love my work!!

JK
