Titusville - Saltwater Fishing Report

This week's report on the Gulf coast from Spotted Tail,
updated 5/23.
I still have tarpon dates available in June for SW Florida
Beaches!!
My apologies to those who depend on my reports. I've been
pretty lax about writing them as of late.
But the report is pretty darned good.
I got down to Cape Coral on May 10, and started looking for
tarpon with Capt. Rick DePaiva on the 11th. We had numerous
shots but no eaters, fish in the 100 pound range. I had 2
eat the next day, and 5 eat on the 13th. I got a 90 pounder,
caught on a raccoon strip fly I call the Kumiski Kritter.
Tim and Kathy Ogan from St. Louis trusted my instincts the
next day. We saw hundreds of tarpon, and Tim hooked six fish
on flies. He got the smallest of the day, a 60 pounder on a
Puglisi streamer.
The 15th had strong east winds. Gary Bland and I only saw
about two dozen fish, none of which ate. :-(
Drs. John Hardeman and Chris Williams came down from Orlando
on the 16th and 17th. The seas were rough, making fishing
tough. Still, the fish were there, and Chris got a 120
pounder on a black/purple streamer, a great catch.
Tom Hancock and his friends faced rough seas and heavy
overcast for most of the next day. The fish were very hard
to see, but they managed to have numerous shots. No one
ate, though.
So for the week we had 14 fish eat, all on fly, and put
three into the boat. Not outstanding, but certainly
respectable. This week was entirely weathered out. I go back
down on June 3 and am booked the 6th through the 9th. I have
plenty of days left, so if you want a shot at a 100 pound
plus tarpon, sightfishing in shallow water, give me a call
today!
It's great to be alive, and I love my work!
John Kumiski
