Now booking tarpon dates for May and June along the Lee Island Beaches!
Happy Super Bowl Sunday! I was born in Massachusetts and graduated from the University of Massachusetts, so you can make an educated guess on who I'm rooting for!
So I don't forget, I'm doing the upcoming events part first.
-On February 13th there's an Indian River trash cleanup. Meet at the MINWR headquarters in Titusville at 9 AM.
-On February 15th my class called Fundamentals of Flats Fishing starts at the Cocoa campus of Brevard Community College. The class, which runs for five weeks, covers all aspects of shallow water fishing, from spooling up your reel to how to properly release fish. Call the school at 321-433-7514 for more information or to register.
-On February 22nd I'll be speaking the Mangrove Coast Fly Fishers in Sarasota. Call 941.232.2960 for more information.
- On February 26 and 27 I'll be speaking at the Atlanta Shallow Water Expo. Visit www.castlow.com for more information.
OK, was this a miserable weather week or what?
Sunday last- crappy weather, didn't fish.
Monday Steve Baker, an old friend from Pinehurst, NC, came down for two days of fly fishing on the lagoon. Monday was cold (high of about 60 degrees) and windy (close to 20 knots), but at least the sun came out. We found quite a few fish, both trout and reds. They weren't very aggressive, and because the boat was blowing around so much we didn't have much time to convince them. We got two reds all day. Since the forecast for Tuesday was the same, Bake packed up his stuff and headed home.
I tied flies on Tuesday. And Wednesday. And Thursday, although it was probably the best day all week.
Friday I met my fishermen at the dock at 7 AM. It was cold (upper 40's), windy (20-25 knots), overcast, and spitting rain. We bagged it on the spot.
Yesterday I fished John and Pete Plummer, brothers from New Jersey, very nice guys. It was cold, windy, and overcast most of the day, not a nice day to be boating at all. We saw very few fish, but managed to get four bites and put two nice slot sized redfish into the boat. One came on a RipTide Weedless jig, the other on a mullet chunk.
Today it's supposed to be a little warmer but still very windy, a good day to get wound up to watch a great football game! Sadly, it's the last real game until next September!!
Remember- life is short. GO FISHING!
Life is also great and I love my work!!
