Spotted Tail Mosquito Lagoon report 4/10/05
This week’s fishing report from Spotted Tail, updated4/10/05
Now booking tarpon dates for May and June along the Lee Island Beaches!
Tuesday the 5th found the Spotted Tail searching the briny for cobia, with Rodney Smith aboard. There were no weeds, no flotsam, or anything like that out there, it was truly like searching for a needle in a haystack trying to find those fish. We did find two balloons! We spent most of our time off of Patrick AFB. We saw and cast to six cobia, hooking four and boating three. Two were short and the other was invited home for several delicious dinners. We also found and caught a lone tripletail of about eight pounds. It was very difficult fishing, though. Oh, all fish were caught on live shrimp.
Wednesday I was part of a two boat charter with Troy Nash, on the Mosquito Lagoon. Doug and Rich, brothers and spin fishers from Texas, cast diligently all day. Fishing was tough but we managed to get eight or ten trout and three reds, all on jerk baits. We did manage two fat catfish on cut bait at the end of the day, like a little night cap!
Yesterday Maxx and I launched kayaks at River Breeze and spent all morning looking for fish in fairly dirty water, mostly unsuccessfully. He saw one red, as did I. I saw several muds that might have been made by reds. Neither of us took a single cast. Lovely day, but poor fishing. I understand that the tournament fishermen who were fishing Friday and Saturday didn't do much, either.
Remember- life is short. GO FISHING!
Life is also great and I love my work!!
