Titusville - Saltwater Fishing Report

Spotted Tail report 12/4, Mosquito Lagoon, no motor zone

Spotted Tail Space Coast report, 12/4/05

I only got out fishing twice this week, but I did get some Christmas shopping done and most of my Christmas cards mailed out!

Monday I had Dan Smith from Geneva, FL, and his buddy Don from Akron, OH, out on the Mosquito Lagoon. We tossed lures all day, 3" DOA Shrimp and 4" DOA CAL jerk baits. Fishing was not spectacular, but it was reasonably steady. We picked up one to three fish in most of the spots we tried, both trout and reds, and ended up with 10 or so reds to 25", 6 trout to 18", one flounder, and one hardhead catfish that I caught on our last cast on a DOA Glow Shrimp. We just had to get that fish in, didn't we?

Thursday Barry Kent joined me for a day's paddle up into the no motor zone of the Banana River. Barry was in his Mohawk canoe, I in my Ocean Kayaks Prowler 13. It was both colder and windier than the weather forecast had led me to believe it would be (now THAT'S a surprise). There weren't many fish around. I saw 12 reds all day, caught one about 30", missed two others, all on black and green Clouser minnows. Barry got a slot red on a black Clouser minnow and also got two nice trout. I fully expected to see some black drum and saw not the first sign of one. Although it was a beautiful day the lack of fish life was a little surprising and somewhat disappointing.
