Titusville - Saltwater Fishing Report

Capt. John Kumiski's SPotted Tail Mosquito Lagoon report 1/8/05

Spotted Tail Mosquito Lagoon fishing report, 1/8/06

It was a slow week, work wise. Such pictures as I have, and there are a few decent ones, can always be seen at http://www.spottedtail.com

Monday I fished Mr. John Burnham, a fly caster from South Carolina, on the Mosquito Lagoon. The wind was a solid 15 mph with gusts, out of the southwest, which always makes for tough fly casting and boat handling. We were in fish most of the morning, saw lots of tailing reds. John got exactly two bites and missed both of them.

Monday night I called my fisherman for Tuesday. He said, "I forgot all about you. I just got out of the hospital. It's not very exciting in there on New Year's Eve." So I didn't work, losing the day.

Capt. Chris Myers invited me to join him for a day's fishing on the Mosquito Lagoon on Wednesday. It was a beautiful day, with a north wind of 5-10 mph and a few high clouds. I started off by getting a trout of 3 or 4 pounds on a Trout Bite. Then Chris took a turn and hooked and lost two. Then I took another turn and got another trout about the same size on an Electric Sushi. We switched off like this all day and ended up with a half dozen trout and a couple of reds, all caught on fly, with Chris getting the big fish award for the day with a red of seven or eight pounds.

Thursday Susan Cocking joined me for a little kayak fly fishing out of River Breeze. We paddled about five miles in a big, rough circle and the fish were scarce. I got five trout to three pounds on a #4 Sexy Fly and a flounder on a Rattle Rouser. Sue only got one bite and missed it. It was a beautiful day, but we didn't see many fish.

I stayed home and tried to keep warm on Friday and Saturday.
