Titusville - Saltwater Fishing Report

Space Coast report 1/22/06, Mosquito Lagoon, Banana River Lagoon
Space Coast fishing report from Spotted Tail, 1/22/06
Now booking tarpon trips for May and June along the Lee County Coast!
Those of you who want to learn more about fishing in the Mosquito Lagoon and Indian River Lagoon may wish to attend the Show and Tell Seminar scheduled for February 11th. Why is it called a Show and Tell? Because I SHOW you where to fish, and TELL you how to go about it. You will learn more in one day during this popular seminar than you could in a year on your own!
Here's what some of the attendees at the last seminar had to say:
- "I want to thank you for a very interesting seminar! I learned a great deal about our resident redfish, and can't wait to apply what you've taught me." -Jeff Graybeal
-" I really enjoyed your seminar yesterday. I am a fly fisherman from the rivers of the Pacific Northwest, so I learned a ton about shallow saltwater fishing. It will be invaluable to me as I begin to explore the Space Coast." - Mark Mielbrecht
-"A couple of friends attended your Show and Tell yesterday. Rave reviews. Mark was effusive in his email about the whole experience. He can't wait to get back out. Every time I send someone your way they come back a satisfied customer. Nice job!" -Mike Adamson
-"I really enjoyed Saturday. You made it really hard to go back to work instead of fish!" -Greg Rhodes
Cost is $40 per person, and is limited to the first 20 folks who sign up. For more information visit http://www.spottedtail.com email me at [email protected], or call me at 407.977.5207.
Fishing this week-
Monday- didn't fish. Drove to Gainesville. The North Florida Fly Fishers are a very nice group of people!
Tuesday- didn't fish. Drove home from Gainesville.
Wednesday- didn't fish. I wasn't booked and the wind was 15-20 knots.
Thursday- Tom Van Horn accompanied me on a scouting trip to the Mosquito Lagoon. Sight fishing conditions were less than ideal- lots of clouds, 10-15 mph winds out of the east. We mostly fished blindly with soft plastics- DOA CALs, DOA Shrimp, and Stanley Wedge Tails. Fishing wasn't fabulous but we've had worse days. We ended up with a dozen or so reds to about six pounds, and 10 or so trout to about four pounds. We watched the launch, and were off the water by 2:30.
Friday- I fished with Tom Van Horn again, this time out of kayaks in the no motor zone. Sight fishing conditions were even worse- solid clouds (we could see showers around us) and a solid east wind at 15 mph. I saw three fish tailing and got all three, saw one cruiser that I got, and got one blind casting, all reds, all on the same black Clouser minnow. The biggest two were 12 pounds, maybe a bit more, nice fish. The other three were in the slot. I missed one strike, for a total of six strikes on the day. We didn't see very many fish, and many of those we did see we ran over because they were laid up. We didn't get a trout, and we didn't get a strike after about noon time. It was a tough day (although I've had worse!).
Upcoming Events-
-On January 27-29 I'll be tying flies and making a presentation at the Fly Fishing Show (www.flyfishingshow.com) in Somerset, NJ.
-On February 4 and 5 I'll be tying flies and making two presentations at the Fly Fishing Show in Tinley Park, Illinois.
-The MINWR Show and Tell Fishing Seminar is scheduled for February 11. Visit http://www.spottedtail.com for more information or to sign up. If the trip fills up I'll run another the following day.
Remember- life is short. GO FISHING!
Life is great and I love my work!!
