Titusville - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing report from Spotted Tail 12/20/09
First off, best wishes to all for a joyful holiday season. Or as we used to say, Merry Christmas!
My bride Susan is a more-than-wonderful woman who doesn't often get mentioned in these missives. But we've been married for almost 30 years and to a large extent I am what I am (whatever that is) in large part because of her. Here's a short play I wrote to illustrate what happened in my house during the past week.
Scene 1: Susan reads my fishing report from last week. Dialogue has been paraphrased for brevity's sake.
Susan: "What are you, crazy? How are you going to buy groceries?"
John: "I want to start a new business that actually makes some money. We may need some after you retire."
Susan: "Good idea. Start the business. But don't quit your day job just yet."
Scene 2: John, very embarrassed, realizes she's right and writes a fishing report to tell the world that he is not quitting guiding after all.
So I filled out and mailed the application for my incidental business permit, and paid my liability insurance premium. I am still in business. Please come fishing with me. Please, please, oh, God, I need the work!!!!!
I'd like to thank every one, and there were lots of you, who wrote me emails and called me during the past week. I joke to people that I have fans, three or four. Clearly I have quite a few more than that. It's very humbling. I will try to live up to your expectations. I promise to keep the fishing reports coming, and thanks to all of you for your support and kind words. I truly have been blessed!
Fishing, ah yes. I did get out one day this week. It was a donated trip for Rodney Smith, Tom Van Horn, and the Anglers for Conservation, on the Mosquito Lagoon. It was overcast and windy (20+). One redfish was caught between four boats. That fish did not come into my boat.
Rick Roberts and April from California were out with me for three hours. We tossed lures for a while with no luck whatsoever and then switched to mullet chunks. April was just hell on those catfish, catching at least a dozen. You might sneer at catfish but on a nasty day with some wonderful folks in the boat we actually had a lot of fun. That is, after all, a good part of the reason why we go fishing.
We met at JB's Fish Camp for lunch at 12:30. After lunch no one wanted to go back out into the worsening weather, so I went back to River Breeze and pulled the boat.
This holiday season please remember to help some folks less fortunate than you, even if it's just dropping a few coins into the Salvation Army bucket. A lot of folks need help and if you can read this you're better off than they are.
Life is short- go fishing!
And life is great and I love my fans, er, I mean work!
