Jekyll Island - Saltwater Fishing Report

The female breeding size Redfish are making their annual appearance in the outer channels of Sounds and Bays up and down the east coast, with many of the larger Redfish landing in the Coastal Georgia area.. Right here around Jekyll Island and Cumberland Island. This area is home to some of the best Redfishing in the world.

This area is only second in numbers of Redfish to Louisiana, but Georgia is home to more 40 pound plus size Redfish than nearly anywhere in the world!

Fine catches of huge Bull Redfish during the Full Moon and New Moon phases have proven the big Reds are right here and right on time... A little early.

These fish not only make great photos and mounts, they put on a fight with the Angler and the fishing Rod like no other fish. We've tailored our Trio 5500 series Spinning Reels with custom light weight rods for the "perfect" Bull Redish setup for fishing for big reds in heavy Current and tidal flow.

Keep in mind, if you fight these fish too long in heavy current using ultra light fishing tackle, you'll exhaust and kill them. Many of these larger Redfish are egg bearing females and are the key to the future of the Redfish fishery in many Coastal areas.

With that in mind, our custom rod and reel set up has heavy line, but the Trio Spinning Reels are medium in size (5500) but weigh virtually nothing. This reel is paired with a custom Graphite Rod to provide the angler with the pleasure of fishing light tackle, but the fish can be landed in a suitable and safe time frame.

Capt. Richie Lott has a knack for these fish and he doesn't disappoint. If you have questions about charter fishing in Coastal Georgia, visit our sites http://www.georgiasportfishing.com/ or http://www.richielott.com/ or email us at [email protected]
