Fishing at Jekyll Island over the past few weeks, the rivers, sounds and bays have come to life for fishermen and visitors of Jekyll Island and St. Simons Island! Bull Redfish (very large reds) are making their into the bays from offshore to patrol the local sandbars and river systems that make Coastal Georgia a premier place to fish in the Spring. These giant redfish will gorge on local baitfish before they spawn eating large amounts of menhaden (aka bunker or pogies), whiting, crabs and other small fin fish that call this rich area home.

Jekyll Island is the Redfish Mecca!

Bullreds in this area grow VERY large and offer one of the hardest and most rewarding fights on medium/light spinning tackle. Whether you have caught a dozen Bullreds or if it is your first time catching one, the fight is always fun and every fish is different! Each time a red gets on line, the fun begins with a solid run and massive head shakes. Hold on tight because these bulls are strong! The Redfish in this area are known to grow to 55+ pounds and with every pound added, the fight is even more intense! These bulls can take up to 20 minutes to land depending on several variables. Redfish travel in schools of mostly males during the spawn and meet the females on various sandbars to breed. After that they need to recharge with food, so they go on patrol for baitfish and crabs.

Over the past few weeks, many families on spring break have caught their trophy fish with Georgia Sport Fishing Charters.
