Soon, Stripers will turn to Herring and Larger Artificials

Capt. Preston Harden
November 23, 2011
Lake Hartwell - Freshwater Fishing Report

Striper Report as of 11-23-11
Lake Hartwell
Water temp-60 degrees
Water level 9ft. below full pool

As we end November the fishing has been tough. The fish have been almost impossible to catch as they eat tiny thread fish shad. They slow roll on the ½ to 1 inch shad. They will not eat anything else. This is normal for November.

As we enter December, this will change. In December we will turn back onto herring and larger baitfish imitations. Calm, cloudy days can be awesome in December. More seagulls and loons arrive for the winter. Fish move shallow and eat baits well presented. Free lined baits early and late, down lined baits on Carolina rig under bright sun should work.

If artificial is your thing, December is one of the 2 best months of the year. Bucktails and flukes fished early and late, spoons jigged on the bottom under bright sky. This feeding should last into January until water gets below 48 degrees. Then it is winter fishing and umbrella rigs work best.

Happy Thanksgiving!
