Lake Oconee - Freshwater Fishing Report

Water temp 75 degrees
Water is stained
Sorry that it has taken so long to have a decent fishing report. We have had our annual shad spawn going on and it just completely shuts the fishing down, execpt for early morning hours. Well, the shad spawn is over and we are going into some of the best fishing of the season with many different kind of bites coming on line.
Trolling bite- The first thing we will see is the big bite coming on Goober Rigs fished on humps and U-Rigs fished in the deeper water down at the dam. There are so many fish caught every year on these trolling procedures and anglers with all kinds of boats can participate.
Live bait bite- This is the one we fish all year long, but it is during this time that when you find the fish, you can just load the boat up with them. We will upgrade to a larger size shad and hit the humps and downline off the side of big humps to entice the bite.
Tailrace bite- This may be my favorite type of fishing. We are casting bucktail jigs in the water release at the bottom of Wallace Dam. When generating is going on, you can catch some really big fish and some days, lots of them.
May and June is a great time to be on Oconee. Give me a call if you are interested in getting on some of these great bites!
Tight Lines
Doug
