It is time for crappie crazy fishing

Lake Oconee - Freshwater Fishing Report

Water is stained and 53 degrees

The crappie bite is just awesome right now!

Over the past 2 days we have caught our limit on guided trips and I have witnessed many other anglers leave with their limits too! We wait all season long for these huge fish to show up, and this year they have not disappointed us at all.

There are several areas on Lake Oconee that are producing limit catches every day. We are using spider rigs, with Jiffy Jigs under them, tipped with minnows. Some favorite colors are Black/Blue, Black/Green, and the famous Sexy Red Bug!

These are not your everyday 1/2 pound crappie. Some of these fish are tipping the scales over 2 pounds and when they hit, they try to pull the entire rod underwater. It is everything a sore rotator cuff can do to get them in the net!

Doug has been guiding on Lake Oconee for over 10 years. His specialty is trophy Striped and Hybrid Bass, and huge Crappie during certain months. His boat is a Ranger 2300 Bay Series powered by a 225 Yamaha 4-stroke motor. It is spacious and can fish up to 6 people! Lake Oconee is the second largest reservoir in the state of Georgia with over 18,000 surface acres of water. The lake is heavily stocked each year with Striped and Hybrid Bass. Doug tries to catch all of them!
