Crappie season in underway

Lake Oconee - Freshwater Fishing Report

Water is stained and 45 degrees

I think by now it is safe to say that our 2010 crappie season is under way. It appears that everything is going to run a little late this year, due to all the cold snowy weather we have had. The water is still cold and kinda muddy, but yesterday we caught 10 of the biggest crappie you have ever seen. The upcoming big moons should really cause these fish to just go crazy.

I am anticipating that the big crappie bite is going to run all the way into the first of April this year. Normally I am done with crappie by the middle to the end of March, but this year should be awesome. We are fishing over river channels which is where they normally stage up for some time before going in to spawn.

These fish are big too! Yesterday 9 out of the 10 we caught were bumping 2 pounds. My customers said they were the largest crappie they have ever caught in their lives. I love to hear that!

Give me a call or email if you are interested in getting on this bite. Hopefully the weather will hold up nice and this will be a much better year.
