Crazy Oconee Fishing

Lake Oconee - Freshwater Fishing Report

June 10, 2008

Water Temp is 84 at Lick Creek

Thank God for crazy again! Crazy is on at Lake Oconee. Ready for this, true story. Last week I had 2 customers out fishing. First rod went down, customer number one grabs it. Second rod went down, customer number two grabs it. Third rod went down, I grab it, then the fourth, then the fifth. I had one rod in each hand and one stuck between my legs, and we got the whole thing on video. None of the five fish had been landed and even more exciting is this craziness lasted for over 3 hours! You talking about one tired little duck at the end of the trip, man, I was beat down. But this is how the summer time bite plays out on Oconee.

April is for big spawning fish. June is for fast and furious action on the lake. This behavior has went on for the last 4 trips I have been out on. On our last trip we got so tired of catching fish we all decided to go on a swim. The picture on my web site shows the guys, swimming and holding up their fish. Live bait is an absolute must right now and no shad is too big.

We are fishing on the deep water humps down closer to the dam, but these fish are going to start showing up everywhere in a few days. There is a lot of bait at Sugar and Lick Creek and you should be able to fill your tanks pretty quick.

On a business note, this is the greatest time of the year to be a member of Access Oconee. During April everyone knows the fish are at the dam, but now to find the best bite of the year, you have to go looking for the fish, unless you are a member of Access Oconee. You get up to the minute fishing reports, and each day I send google maps on the places I caught fish on that particular day. Also when I am out on the water I am sending coordinates to the cell phones of the members of the network. For just pennies a day, you get the info to go straight to the fish and stop spending all of your hard earned money looking for them. At the price of gas these days, your first trip out will pay for itself. Check it out on the front page of my web site at www.fishingoconee.com.

Doug has been guiding on Lake Oconee for over 10 years. His specialty is trophy Striped and Hybrid Bass, and huge Crappie during certain months. His boat is a Ranger 2300 Bay Series powered by a 225 Yamaha 4-stroke motor. It is spacious and can fish up to 6 people! Lake Oconee is the second largest reservoir in the state of Georgia with over 18,000 surface acres of water. The lake is heavily stocked each year with Striped and Hybrid Bass. Doug tries to catch all of them!
