Lake Oconee - Freshwater Fishing Report

December 8, 2009
Water temp 59
The water is highly stained from the middle of the lake to the north end.
Everything is scheduled to come on line and be in full swing this month. In comparison to last year, we have had mild temps that has kept the lake from cooling down to the middle 50's. When it reaches this temp, the shad will become concentrated in back coves, looking for warmer water, and the fish will follow.
There are already great signs of this happening. The gulls have showed up, which always seems to announce our wintertime bite. The areas to look for activity are The Pipeline, Great Waters and around the middle of the lake. Trolling with crankbaits and sassy shads produce alot of fish during this time. We also get alot of top water schooling activity, so make sure you have plenty of gas in your boat to ride around and look for them.
Live bait can be caught really easy in the Lick Creek area and we also use big bass minnows, as the fish are eating smaller shad and the minnows have the same appearance.
Tight Lines
Doug
