Lake Oconee - Freshwater Fishing Report

Stripers

October 15, 2002

Hello everyone! I am sorry about not placing reports lately, but we have just been through a family tragedy and lost our godson. Everyone is trying to get back to normal and with the Lord’s help, I know we will. The fishing is picking up and it is rapidly approaching my most favorite time of the year. Here at Lake Oconee the big hybrids are have started showing up at the rivers bend.

Every year when the lake starts turning over they follow the bait and show up in mass. You can fish in these spots all day long and probably stay busy baiting hooks and pulling in fish. Of course I use nothing but live bait for this time of the year (that is if I can find them) and we will stay busy as long as we want to. Right now it is still hit and miss. You might go and catch your limit in one morning and you may come back the next day and not mark but a few fish. They are there and if you will just be persistent, you will have rods bend!

Lake Lanier is getting ready for its great wintertime striper fishing. Oh I can’t wait! The bait is already moving up into some creeks and surface activity is beginning. Hammonds sells blueblacks, if you can’t catch them, and freelining and downlining are the tickets. Again, right now it is hit and miss, but if you find it on the right day, you will get tired of reeling these monsters in.

I am booking trips for the season and right now is the time to call. I will be back in the swing in about 2 weeks and will making regular trips and postings.

Tight lines

Doug

Doug has been guiding on Lake Oconee for over 10 years. His specialty is trophy Striped and Hybrid Bass, and huge Crappie during certain months. His boat is a Ranger 2300 Bay Series powered by a 225 Yamaha 4-stroke motor. It is spacious and can fish up to 6 people! Lake Oconee is the second largest reservoir in the state of Georgia with over 18,000 surface acres of water. The lake is heavily stocked each year with Striped and Hybrid Bass. Doug tries to catch all of them!
