Lake Oconee - Freshwater Fishing Report
Lake Oconee/Hybrids
Water Temp 47
Every once in a while it seems as if the fish just quit biting and go somewhere else. This has been the case for the hybrids over the last week. However never fear! We scientifically know that these fish do not have legs, and they can’t fly either, so they are still there, somewhere in the water, and will show up very soon.
It rained “cats and dogs” here this morning and as I sit in my office here and look out the window, Oconee is just about as muddy as she gets. Now normally it takes about 3 days for this “stain” to clear out and the fishing become normal again. If we get no more rain this weekend should be great. Yesterday I spied from my back deck about 6 boats crappie fishing just before the weather came in. I understand they did very well and the crappies were pretty big.
Everything is lining up for this to be a banner year for crappie and hybrids on this lake. I have a couple of trips to do this week, and soon as I find them, I will let you know!
Doug has been guiding on Lake Oconee for over 10 years. His specialty is trophy Striped and Hybrid Bass, and huge Crappie during certain months. His boat is a Ranger 2300 Bay Series powered by a 225 Yamaha 4-stroke motor. It is spacious and can fish up to 6 people! Lake Oconee is the second largest reservoir in the state of Georgia with over 18,000 surface acres of water. The lake is heavily stocked each year with Striped and Hybrid Bass. Doug tries to catch all of them!
