Lake Oconee - Freshwater Fishing Report

Fishing Report

Water Temp 38!

If you are planning on coming to Lake Oconee and fish, DON’T! Sorry to sound so negative but with the “ice melt” we had just a few days ago, it has chilled the water and the hybes have gone into hibernation.

I have been fishing here for over 10 years now and for 5 years I have beat this water pretty good. In the last 5 years I haven’t seen the surface temp get this low and it is definitely having an impact on the fishing.

Luckily today the groundhog didn’t see his shadow so warm weather is just around the corner. We will be breaking out our shorts and tanning lotion before you know it; I hate those groundhogs! Bunch of liars!

Nevertheless it will be a great week to do what I did. Go to your local tackle store and get stocked up for the upcoming madness that will be the late winter/early spring bite.

Some of the anglers are picking up a few crappie here and there. It was red hot just before all of this ice and if we can get a few “warm” days, things will get back to normal. I will let you know soon as I hear something.

Tight Lines
