Lake Oconee, Madison Georgia

Lake Oconee - Freshwater Fishing Report

Water Temp 49

It has been some time since I have posted a report, and for great reason. Lake Sinclair has just finished it December drawdown, which means that no water from Oconee was allowed to be released into the lake, which means there was little water movement on Oconee, which means…you guessed it, little, little fish activity.

Last year this time we were killing the crappie and hybes. All through December there were banner days that we’d sit back and thought of ourselves as the fish masters. Not this December.

Alas though, it is not all bad news. The New Year has rolled around, and now Oconee is beginning to look like its old self again, however GA Power seems like they are now draining our lake to make the fine people of Sinclair happy again.

So, the fishing is picking up. We are starting to catch some hybes in the familiar spots and the crappie are starting to pick up. Right now I have about 15 in my box and they are around a pound and a half to some coming close to 2 pounds.

From here on out it should only get better. If you are interested in being on my mailing list for 2006 shoot me a line. I normally send a bulk email out just about every time I go out and fish. You can get up to the day reports on when and where they are biting. Just go to my website and request to be put on the mailing list.

Thanks and tight lines

Doug

Doug has been guiding on Lake Oconee for over 10 years. His specialty is trophy Striped and Hybrid Bass, and huge Crappie during certain months. His boat is a Ranger 2300 Bay Series powered by a 225 Yamaha 4-stroke motor. It is spacious and can fish up to 6 people! Lake Oconee is the second largest reservoir in the state of Georgia with over 18,000 surface acres of water. The lake is heavily stocked each year with Striped and Hybrid Bass. Doug tries to catch all of them!
