Lake Oconee, Madison Georgia

Lake Oconee - Freshwater Fishing Report

Water Temp 73

Stained all the way to the Dam

I have been working so hard that there has been no time to post a report. This hybrid season was almost identical to the crappie season of 06. Just a few here and there. The dam bite was early and we never got to see the boat brigade show up in full force.

But it appears that the hybes are back to their old ways. Over the past 3 trips we have boated over 50 fish and they have been nice ones. The minnow bite is over and they are chasing big gizzard shad.

Finding the shad is another story. My sore shoulders are a sign that the shad are hiding. I threw the net what seemed like 100 times yesterday and only found a few bait. The shad run is just about over and if you don’t get out there at daylight to catch your bait, it is just about impossible to do it later.

The fish are showing up in Sugar Creek and on the humps down at the mouth of Richland Creek and even up to the two islands in Richland. It really is no secret where the fish are, just follow the boats.

If you want some great hybrid action go right now, who knows what these crazy things will do tomorrow.

Doug has been guiding on Lake Oconee for over 10 years. His specialty is trophy Striped and Hybrid Bass, and huge Crappie during certain months. His boat is a Ranger 2300 Bay Series powered by a 225 Yamaha 4-stroke motor. It is spacious and can fish up to 6 people! Lake Oconee is the second largest reservoir in the state of Georgia with over 18,000 surface acres of water. The lake is heavily stocked each year with Striped and Hybrid Bass. Doug tries to catch all of them!
