Lake Oconee - Freshwater Fishing Report

February 2, 2007

Water Temp 45

The cold weather is helping the anglers out on Lake Oconee and if this trend continues we are going to have some really awesome fishing in just a few days. It has just been too warm for anything substantial to happen, or at least for things to happen as we know they can at the lake.

News Flash: right now up the Apalachee River there are more shad and fish congregated than I have seen in a very long time. Your electronics will go black when you get over them. It appears that the crappie are hanging down around 18 feet and the shad are just above them. However, we have not went in and busted them up at all. It is still slim pickins, one here and one there.

The hybes are at Double Branches and when you see the gulls having a fit, you know the fish are becoming active. Have several rods loaded with different offerings, because you never know what they are going to hit. I keep one rod with a top water Zara Spook, one rigged with 3 inch sassy shad, one shad rap, one with spoons, and of course several with live bait. These fish change their eating patterns more than you and I, but if you stay versatile you will find them.

We are booking up for the big spring run already, so throw your hat in the ring and give me a call.

Tight lines
