Lake Oconee, Madison Georgia

Lake Oconee - Freshwater Fishing Report

March 17, 2007

Water Temp – 59 to 62

It wild and wide open right now for hybrid fishing and unlike the beginning of crappie season, this hybrid season shows great promise. Over the past hew fishing trips we have boated hybes over 7 pounds. Now that’s not eyeballing the fish and guessing how much it weighs, but that is actually putting a $120.00 scale on it.

Last year the hybes were running a lot smaller and there wasn’t as many as we are seeing now. In just a few weeks the dam will be lined with boaters chasing these fish as they head to the dam current to spawn.

Right now we are catching them on bass minnows but last week anglers were “ripping” these fish by casting flukes to them. Albino and pearl colors seem to work the very best. If you want to know where they are just go to the dam and you will find them. You should see a lot of boats trolling around. Please be kind and respectful to other boaters by not coming into the area at full throttle. Every year I can’t believe during the time of the spawn how many anglers are so inconsiderate of other boaters.

Get in line with everyone else to let your lines out and never turn back into the crowd and short drift. This will make a lot of people mad. Good luck and I will see you out there.
