Lake Oconee, Madison Georgia

Lake Oconee - Freshwater Fishing Report

Water Temp 74

November 2, 2007

It is on and this is going to be a great fishing season on Lake Oconee. The hybes are bigger, fatter and meaner than anything you have ever seen, and the new kids on the block (our stripers) are doing very well showing up in the 5 ½ pound class. The lake is still in the process of turning back and in certain depths of water your down lined bait won’t last a minute, but overall things look really promising.

Over the past 4 trips we have boated some of the prettiest hybes and stripers that I have seen in a long while. We are using a lot of store bought minnows, but I found a cove holding shad today and after throwing my net one time, I had all I needed. Those shad really paid off when all 8 down rods went dipping into the water, not 5 minutes into our fishing trip.

You can find shad in the cove at Lick Creek. I would go there as early as you possibly can, because soon as the sun comes up they disappear. The hybrids are in the middle of the lake from Great Waters all the way down to the Sawdust Pile, across from Flagpole Point.

Be ready with your flat lines and down lines because it can all change in an instant. Tuesday they wouldn’t hit a down line. Wednesday they wouldn’t hit a flat line. Thursday they hit both. Today, only down lines. Go figure.

If you want to get on some really big fish you should hurry and give me a call. Who knows how long this crazy action will last.
