Lake Oconee, Madison Georgia

Lake Oconee - Freshwater Fishing Report

December 13, 2007

I have to tell you, I am very surprised at just how great the fishing is on the lake right now. Lake Oconee is only down about 5 feet, which is not bad compared to the other Georgia Reservoirs, and the fishing is awesome.

I have been sending friends out to various places all over the lake and every time they call me back and the story is the same, “Doug, we killed them”. It is just a tremendous time to be on the lake right now, that is if you can find a ramp to get your boat in the water. Lets talk about that first.

About the only place I know where you can put a big boat in would be Sugar Creek Marina and Lawrence Shoals. Lick Creek, Long Shoals, Swords, Redlands, and many other places are just too shallow. At the bottom of the ramp at Long Shoals I think an outcropping from Stone Mountain has appeared in the form of some really huge rocks. A friend told me this week that his trailer dropped off the ramp at Lick Creek, but really anywhere you put in, you need to be really careful.

As far as the fishing is going I will have to say that this may be the best I have seen it for this time of the year. The stripers are hungry and the hybes are big. I even heard about some friends catching the fool out of crappie, something to the tune of around hundreds of fish in just a few days. If you write me and ask where they were fishing I will not be able to tell you. Folks normally don’t give that kind of information out until after they are done there, but the point is the fishing is red hot.

Many people have been ordering gift certificates for Christmas presents over the past few weeks and what a great way to tell someone Merry Christmas. If you are interested in giving someone a trip, just go to the rate page on my web site and fill in the info.

Also I am updating my mailing list for the upcoming year and if you would like to get regular fishing reports just shoot me an email and tell me you want on the list. A new service we will be offering this year will be up to date fishing reports for everyone who wants to purchase a subscription. Each day I fish I will send and updated report, pictures and exact locations of where I found them for the day. It will only cost a small subscription fee and the information will be worth so much to any angler who doesn’t want to ride around the lake all day looking for fish. I will be telling you more about it as we start the new year.

Thanks for reading!

Sincerely

Doug Nelms
