Lake Oconee - Freshwater Fishing Report

Water temp 52
February 26, 2009
The crappie fishing is at a fevered pitch on Lake Oconee. Honestly, this may be the best crappie season that we have seen in the past 5 years. Big fish and limits have been the norm over the past few weeks. The warm and cold changes in weather have not affected the fish too bad and they are starting to stage up in the areas where the big fish commonly show up first.
Wayne' Point, Smokehouse and the Powerline has produced some really huge fish over the past week. We have boated 3 crappie this year over 3 pounds and caught more 2 1/2 pounders than I can count.
We are catching them by fishing spider rigs over the channels in the morning and fishing the shallows as the water warms up in the afternoon. There is nothing more exciting than to have 3 rods bend at the same time with huge crappie on the end of them.
We are catching them using black and chartreuse jigs tipped with minnows and using 1/16 oz jig heads. Give me a call if you want to get in on some red hot action! 770 354 0300
