Summer time bite is on!

Lake Oconee - Freshwater Fishing Report

Water Temp is 85 Degrees At Dam

It is on at Lake Oconee!

I knew sooner than later the fish would get into their predictable summer time habitat. They have showed up on the various humps down at the dam and they have been really big ones! Just yesterday my customers caught 8 of the biggest hybrids I have seen all year. They were all the same size, they fought hard and we had a blast!

Concentrate on any of the humps or hills that are located close to deep water. Many guys have been using umbrella rigs and Norris Rigs and doing quite well. As you know I love fishing with live bait and I feel like it produces bigger fish. My customers joked yesterday when they saw the size of the bait. The commented that if we don't catch fish, we can certainly use the bait for a meal! Many of the shad I am fishing with weigh close to a pound.

Sugar Creek should get really good over the next few weeks, so I would definitely keep an eye out for that. Also look at Flagpole Point, The Sawdust Pile and areas close to the dam. I think you will be presently surprised.

One more thing. If you want daily accurate reports on how and where to catch these monsters, sign up for Access Oconee. Think about this. Most guys come down for a weekend fishing trip and spend over fifty bucks in gas just trying to find them. They could have spent a fraction of that amount and went right to the fish. Access Oconee is the best tool for the weekend angler. Check it out at www.fishingoconee.com.

Doug has been guiding on Lake Oconee for over 10 years. His specialty is trophy Striped and Hybrid Bass, and huge Crappie during certain months. His boat is a Ranger 2300 Bay Series powered by a 225 Yamaha 4-stroke motor. It is spacious and can fish up to 6 people! Lake Oconee is the second largest reservoir in the state of Georgia with over 18,000 surface acres of water. The lake is heavily stocked each year with Striped and Hybrid Bass. Doug tries to catch all of them!
