Lake Oconee - Freshwater Fishing Report

Water is clear up Richland Creek
Water temp is 84 degrees
We are entering our late spring/summer bite on Lake Oconee and it is during these months that things can get really interesting. We began to focus our attention in the tailrace of Wallace Dam and on places in the north part of Oconee.
It is during these trips that you can load the boat with some really good fish. There have been many trips that we have steady had fish on the entire time. It is because the stripers from Sinclar seek out the cooler water that the tailrace provides. They go as far as they can into the surf where the water is cooler and highly oxygenated. Most of the the time all you have to do is put a bait in front of them and they are going to eat it.
Then you get the effect of a 7 pound striper feeling like a 14 pounder, with the added effect of millions of gallons of water coming through the dam. It is really great fishing and something you should try. Bass minnows are just about the only bait we can manage right now, as the shad still have not gotten big enough to catch and fish with.
Give me a call if you are interested in a fast, fun day of striper fishing!
