Lake Oconee - Freshwater Fishing Report

Water Temp is 50
The fishing just keeps getting better on Oconee with the stripers and hybrids showing some really good sizes for this time of year. The unusually cold weather has moved the shad into the coves earlier than expected, which means the fish have followed them.
Since the shad have moved up, the gulls have moved in and we have been seeing some really cool surface action. The birds have been dive bombing when the fish start schooling and it is really something to watch. In just about 10 minutes we caught 7 fish by casting jigs to them. Out of the 7 we caught 4 of them were over 10 pounds. It was so cool, and it made we look really good as a guide.
You can look for the birds on the south end of the lake with the main action coming early in the morning and late in the afternoon. If you are wanting to live bait fish, there are plenty of shad around the boat dock at Sugar Creek. This is a great time to be on the water even though it is a little cool.
