The Georgia Coast is Fired Up!

Capt. Tim Cutting
November 13, 2011
St. Simons Island - Saltwater Fishing Report

As expected, the fall fishing has been outstanding! Cold mornings with midday temps in the 70's have really fired off the big three: Flounder, Trout and Redfish. The fish have not been picky, with shrimp and plastics fishing equally well. We have even had some great days with the fly rod using Deceivers and Clousers. The slight drop in water temperature has killed off many micro-organisms, leaving the water clean and green! With trout biting well on the top of the tides, reds at the low and flounder on all stages in between, limits have been the norm. The Georgia Coast offers arguably the best fall fishing in the south. Our amazing State Park system and many state of the art ramps and lifts, help make access to these pristine marshes readily available. Come and fish our coast, and be sure to bring your camera, as these marshes are pristine and undeveloped due to some excellent management over the last century. The only over population problem we have are the fish!

St. Simons Island Fishing Forecast:

We are entering probably one of the best fishing windows of the year. The trout bite is exploding as we speak, and the reds have already started schooling up thick. Take your time and fish what looks fishy, concentrating on shell whenever possible. If you are not getting bites within ten minutes...move! You WILL find the fish! Bring a popping cork with about 2-3 ft of leader tied on. Whether you fish a plastic or live shrimp under the cork, remember to pop it! The gurgling, rattling sound emitted WILL draw the fish. They don't call it a popping cork for nothing! Good luck, obey the local regs and keep only what you plan to clean and eat.

Target Species:

Speckled Trout, Redfish, Flounder
