Red Hot Reds!

Capt. Tim Cutting
July 14, 2011
St. Simons Island - Saltwater Fishing Report

Just a quick update on the St. Simon's Island Charter Fishing scene for everybody. Big sharks are the norm this time of year, ranging from the near shore wrecks, to fishing the by-catch behind the shrimp boats, or even in the rivers. Heck, I heard of a 7 footer being caught at a creek mouth last week! The somewhat surprising story is the amount of Reds that have shown up this year. We have been catching great numbers of shorts, slots and overs fairly consistently. The key to our success has been live bait pinned to jigheads, pitched around oysters at low tide. Trout are beginning to show in real good numbers as well, and the flounder bite has stayed strong every since spring. And now the Georgia coast tarpon fishery is about to get into full swing! Hopefully the next report will include a few silver king catches!
