Kona - Saltwater Fishing Report
Chris Drummond from Pittsburgh went fishing with us on May 17. Chris got to the boat at 7:00 am for our departure, after doing our banana search(bad luck) I noticed a gold fish hook cliped on his hat. I told Chris about a tournament here in Kona many years ago. The gold hooks were given out to all the captains and crew. Fishing wasn't very good and some one on one of the boats figured it might be the hook so they threw it in the ocean and then hooked up immediatly on a marlin.
Well the word got out and everyone was throwing the hooks in the ocean.
We were on our way in with Chris when all of a sudden the water erupted with a blue marlin strike. After boating the marlin Chris told me he had thrown the hook in the ocean only about 3 minutes before the strike. We are not superstitious or anything we just don't take chances on Sea Strike. Chris kept his 160 lb blue marlin to be mounted by Gray Taxidermy in S. Florida
Kona Fishing Forecast:
We have spearfish, wahoo, yellowfin tuna up to and over 200 lbs, blue and stripe marlin present at this time. There have been some very large marlin landed in the last couple weeks. One was weighed in at 995.5 lbs.
