Kona fishing on Sea Strike

Capt. Dale Leverone
April 16, 2011
Kona - Saltwater Fishing Report

We had the Brian Winter wedding party out this week. We were able to catch a few mahimahi and one of them pictured below was a pompano dolphin. The pompano dolphin is a smaller dolphin specie and not real common. We cleaned the fish for the party. We also had a St. marlin
on but it threw the hook. Also pictured below are some Kayakers drafting on us as we left Honokohau harbor in the morning. They are actually going about 8.5 knots in this photo.

Jigging at 80 fathoms will land highly prized snapper, kahala, ulua and other varieties. Night-time fishing for broadbill swordfish offers a rare chance at this elusive predator.
