Venice - Saltwater Fishing Report

Report April 17, 2012
The wind has made the fishing around the Venice, Louisiana area difficult some days, but we have been catching the Redfish and Speckled Trout consistently even with the wind. I am excited that the Speckled Trout have been showing up in numbers down river. The warmer weather has seemed to turn on the Specks early this year. Also, the Mississippi River is falling and should be around the 5 ft. at the New Orleans river stage by next week. That is good because there will be less fresh water hitting the Gulf of Mexico. Trout like that. The Redfish have been hitting good most of the time during the days. Big Redfish. Both, the Reds and Specks have been hitting artificial lures. We have been using soft plastics under a cork, Rattle traps, gold spinnerbaits, and on some days the topwater plugs have been producing strikes. The big Redfish have had my clients moving around the boat while fighting the fish. Sometimes they break off, because they power their way around the boat and get the line caught in the engine or trim tabs. That is no problem. It is going to happen with these powerful Redfish.
Everyone has been relaxing at the Fish On Lodge in the evenings as well. In the afternoons we have come back to the lodge and cleaned fish, have a seafood supper, and got some rest. We get up early the next morning, have breakfast, and go fishing. Every day is different, so it is always another different adventure. If you are looking for a gulf coast fishing vacation package give us a call. Capt. Shawn 225-205-5353.
