Louisiana - Venice & the Gulf of Mexico

Venice - Saltwater Fishing Report

TUNA and COBIA SLAM!

The offshore fishing has gone from good, back to downright awesome. Yesterday, a friend and myself went out chasing cobia and had no problem finding them. We fished for about 2 hours landing two and losing two. All of them were between 30-40lbs. The biggest was hooked on a fly, but he of course made our line break like a wet noodle.

Yesterday, we went chasing the tunas. Unbelievable day! We left the dock at 6:00 a.m. and by 11:00 a.m. we had 12 yellowfin in the boat. The biggest was only about 70lbs. and the rest were under 40lbs. But, it was nonstop action all day. In total we caught close to, or right over 50 tuna. I stopped counting. Most of them were blackfin 10-20lbs. and we kept 8. They would hit just about anything you put in the water. You would catch one, and at times 6-7 tuna would follow the hooked one to the surface. Great Day! We will be back at it the rest of the week so hopefully we will have more reports like this one. The fishing is at its best right now so don't miss out on the action.
