Louisiana - Venice & the Gulf of Mexico

Capt. Damon McKnight
March 14, 2004
Venice - Saltwater Fishing Report

Tackle Busting Tuna!

The yelllowfin tuna have shown up down here in full force off the coast of La. Every year these big yellowfin tuna make their way across the Gulf of Mexico into our offshore waters and give us very fortunate anglers a better than average chance at 100+lb. fish.

This week we had Rocky Landry and gang tuna fishing with us on Friday. They managed to get an enormous 151 lb. yellowfin in the boat, along with an 83 lb. Amberjack and several blackfin tuna. The bite is very good right now and should remain this way. Our wahoo bite has tapered off a little but they will be back towards the end of March.

Here is a little futurecast. Our Snapper season opens April 21st. The Mahi-Mahi and Marlin usually start to move in around the middle of April and beginning of May. This is when the weather is beautiful and lots of fish are caught.

Till the next report,

Damon McKnight/Super Strike Charters
