Louisiana - Venice & the Gulf of Mexico

Venice - Saltwater Fishing Report

Rain and Fish

Haven't posted in about a week. The weather got us for most of this past week and we were getting ready for the SKA Pro/West Delta Kingfish Tournament. Our team had a total weight of about 65lbs. We caught a 35lber and a 29lber. (NOT GOOD) Needed a lot more weight. The big fish of the tournment was 57lbs. Out of about 200 boats we finished 58th. For those of you who fished in

Venice this weekend I am sure you saw all the kingfish team boats down here. It was very crowded, but a good time was had by all that fished it.

The rig fishing and bluewater fishing has been about as good as it gets. Plenty of Snapper, mostly Greys(mangroves, the red snapper have all been huge but were not catching limits of them, cobia, amberjack, and grouper all coming off the rigs. The yellowfin tuna bite has been incredible during the day and night. For those of you wondering about the full moon affecting the tuna bite during the day, it isn't this time. It seems as if the Marlin bite slowed down a little and the big bull dolphin haven't made a strong appearance just yet. We will be back at it this Monday.
