South Louisiana redfish report

Capt. Shawn Lanier
June 11, 2013
Venice - Saltwater Fishing Report

June 11th 2013 report

June has been very good as far as the Redfish action. The big "Bull" Redfish and the slot "keeper" Redfish have been around down river. We have constantly have had to search for them, because the conditions change daily, but we have not had too many dry spells as far as action. Most of the slot Redfish have been around the canes, and the big Redfish have been off the banks and beaches. Sometimes the baitfish give us some clues as to where they are, and other times they are just there without any sign that they are there. Sometimes, they are not there and we move on.
Since my last report, I have had folks from Washington State, Nebraska, Tennessee, South Carolina, Mississippi, and North Louisiana. I usually have my rods rigged with a soft plastic under a cork, a spinner bait, a rattle trap type lure, and a lead head with a soft plastic. One or all of these presentations may be what the fish want at that particular time of the day. I often get asked by my clients which lure should we use when we get to a spot, and I tell the truth which is, " I am not sure". "Lets try them all and see what happens". I may suspect what the fish want, but the fish constantly change their mood . The fish keep me guessing all the time. It makes my job challenging. They keep me alert.
Its been great having some good folks fishing with me and staying at my place. Its like having relatives over. Usually, I only have one boat of clients staying at my place, so I really get to visit and get to know the folks who book fishing trips with me. The kind of people who book fishing trips are all good working people who want to come down and experience a unique area to fish in our small community here in Plaquemines parish. Fishing is fun, but it is hard work, so some days off here and there give me a chance to recharge for the next trip out on the water. Look forward to seeing you down here. Give me a call to book your Fall fishing trip! Starting to fill up...
