Venice - Saltwater Fishing Report

February 11, 2013 Report
The big Redfish are holding around the outside bays in the Venice area, as they usually are this time of year. It is just a matter of whether you can get to them as far as the weather is concerned. We are used to muddy water around the mouth of the Mississippi River, but the high winds make it dangerous to go into the river, especially when strong winds blow the opposite of the river flow. I fished several days with some folks from Texas last week, but I had to cancel the last day because of thirty knot winds. Fortunately, we caught some nice Redfish before the front hit. Earlier last week I took out some guys from Washington state. They wanted some fish to take home, so I told them we could probably get on some Speckled Trout. There are not many days in February when the Trout will bite good, but it had warmed up for a few days and I thought we could do it. We caught about fifty keeper Specks. That is all over with now that all this bad weather has hit down here. The Redfish are more reliable this time of year. Redfish can handle the cold water better than trout. Especially, the Big Redfish. We have been eating good at the lodge as well.
I am just about booked in March, but I still have openings in April, May, and June if anyone wants to get in on some exciting fishing action down here at the end of the road. Thanks, have a good one. Capt. Shawn-out.
