Stellwagen Bank - Saltwater Fishing Report

Nice, nice shared charter today. The weather was perfect and the company was even better. All repeat customers today, fishing for cod, mostly with jigs in water 240-280' deep. We hit some great cod and a huge pollack in 270' of water at Pile 265. Joel was an amazing spot early in the day before the tide changed.
With the change in tide, we worked rockpiles, hoping to stay in place and score some big fish. 15 year-old Greg hooked up big time, doubling over his rod leaving him thinking that he had the bottom. I grabbed the rod and said "40+ pounder" and gave it back to him. Actually, it was a double-header. He landed the top fish, a 23 pound pollack and the jig broke off. Probably it's clone. All of this on our smallest rod--an Okuma Red Isis an Guide Select (MH) rod. I love this combo for cod fishing and it only gets better. Apart from tuna or shark, it'll handle anything and it's soooo light.
Leo landed the largest cod of the day with a nearly 20 pounder. Great eating fish! With Dale jigging off of the back of the boat, he had constant action and a pile of fish, including a slew of haddock on the jigs. Eric, Dr. Eric, fishing the bow, landed a great cod double-header (16 and 10 pounds). Awesome day and a trip for the freezer!!
So, this week looks better and better and I have some space, so give me a call and we'll get out there!! Rich Antonino, 508-269-1882
