CodFish Blitz on the Black Rose

Capt. Rich Antonino
April 16, 2008
Stellwagen Bank - Saltwater Fishing Report

Here's a trip of three days for you! We had a shared charter for codfishing from Green Harbor this morning and the weather was perfect! I mean, unreal April fishing. There was no wind, sun, and the fish cooperated. I installed the new Navionics Gold card today and the detail over and above their older model was amazing. I had contour lines everywhere! The bite to end the day was AMAZING.

There was a good bite in the morning and we did well catching haddock with some keeper cod thrown in there. Then, the bite died for us. I mean, it died hard. We marked tons of bait everywhere we went and the whale show was amazing. We had whales jumping out of the water, bubble feeding, standing on their heads, and slapping their pectoral fins on the water. With unlimited visibility, it was very memorable.

To end the day, however, we had a blitz of all blitzes of keeper cod and haddock. The fishfinder was solid red from the top to bottom. We had whales all around the boat and it was something never to forget. Mike had the largest cod of the day at 10#, 2 oz. It's the largest cod of this young season. Richard caught the first dead fish ever on the Black Rose! Yes, he snagged an old cod head. Great day!

We're the small charter specialists for private 1-4 person groups and shared charters. We fish where the fish are--cod/haddock on Stellwagen Bank, huge sea bass in Buzzards Bay, bluefin tuna on Stellwagen Bank, sharks off of Martha's Vineyard and Wildcat Knoll, Stripers off of Provincetown. We have a great website; visit us often and meet us as friends. We have lots of fun out there and cater to both the novice and veteran alike. Our rates are great and you don't have to get 6 people!!
