Stellwagen Bank - Saltwater Fishing Report

September 25--tuna!!
Did I mention that the guys from Angler's ProShop in Brooklyn could fish for tuna? Once again, as the Monkey's said, "I'm a believer". Long story short, we hooked four fish today and landed all four of them. Nice tuna ALL OF THEM CAUGHT ON SPINNING GEAR (OK, ONE WAS CAUGHT ON A BAITCASTER--CASTING A PLUG!!!)
Check out their website for fishing info, some new knots, and techniques that we'll be using in the Northeast in the near future. They didn't invent it, but they're bringing it to the forefront with results. We had most fish caught either on swimming plugs or on topwater baits--one strike was as exciting as you'll ever see! It was explosive. Imagine an 80 pound bluefish striking a popper!! Enough said. Angler's ProShop in Brooklyn and on the WEB.
One rod did break today during a crazy battle--it even broke twice! It broke at first when the fish got near the boat and took off straight down. It then shortened itself by another foot when it made another intense run at the boat. But we landed it regardless. Great day on the water and lots of fun.
We started the day in some choppy seas by Race Point and ended up fishing the Northwest Corner of Stellwagen Bank! We did cover a lot of ground!
Well, we're busy and having fun. Drop us a line and make some plans to get on the water. Capt. Rich Antonino, 508-269-1882 or [email protected]
I went back over the past couple of weeks and added a bunch of photos to the fishing reports, so browse around and check them out. What great photos we've been able to take. Happy faces...
September 24--tuna, cod and haddock on Stellwagen Bank with the Black Rose
We had a blast today. Starting off on a combo charter, it's always nice to bang a tuna right off the bat. It was great hitting the tuna on a daisy chain set far back. Of course, it was tangled with another daisy chain, thanks to the 4' seas this morning, but that's ok. We had two lines go off-the real one and the tangled one. It was exciting as sin!
We then headed further offshore to see what the cod/haddock bite would be like. It was excellent. We hit some great haddock for the first hour+, then looked for some rocks to see the cod. We landed some nice cod to 29 pounds, and only a couple of dogfish, and a few cusk. The winds died down nicely for a tremendous, calm ride home. It was cool cruising at 30 mph, knowing that I could push it to 40 if I wanted--but it was great just riding peaceful!
Tomorrow....run-n-gun with the guys from Angler's Proshop, from Brooklyn again. If you have thought about fishing for tuna with spinning gear, check out their site! It's pretty excellent. Fish with them and you'll be a believer. Angler's Pro-Shop. See you out there
September 21--cod and haddock with Black Rose Fishing Charters
Back to my roots--cod and haddock with some great repeat customers. We had a blast today catching some great cod and haddock, along with three nice fat pollack. In fact, we had one run of haddock in which we landed some of the largest haddock I have ever seen! I'll be back there tomorrow--we ended today on this spot--I hope they're still there!
This fall is booking up quickly--for you serious fishermen, it's tuna time and freezer-filling time with cod and haddock.
FOR ROOKIES--why not come out and catch some fish? If you have fished freshwater and like spincasting, let's hammer the bluefish for some amazing action. We'll also get stripers like this. It's more fun than wire-line trolling. We always have Buzzards Bay to fall back upon in case the wind is blowing too bad offshore, so all is not lost and you'll still be fishing (if you want to go that route).
September 20--tuna on spinning gear with Black Rose Fishing Charters
Anglers-Proshop. Remember this name and check them out online (or in Brooklyn, if you're down there.) They come prepared to cast for TUNA!!! Yes, we've been doing great with this crowd catching bluefin tuna while running-and-gunning these awesome fish.
One customer flew in from Los Anglees to fish with us on Thursday--and was rewarded by catching two tuna of 59 and 75 pounds. I feel like a 16 year old again.
